I am planning to put a windlass on my 1985,40',Hunter Legend - after 20 years of pulling up the anchor. I would like to hear from anyone with a 40' Legend in that 1984-1986 model, that may have installed a windlass. Looking for some recommendations on what windlass they used & how it was installed. My plan is to put a battery in the area of the vberth. This will prevent me from having to run heavy guage wire from the windlass (in the bow) back to the batteries (you need two heavy gauge wires).

The usual method with a shallow locker is shown in the picture, a vertical installed right behind the locker. My own is inside the locker but I have a hawse pipe that leads to the keel. So the chain does not have to pile up in the locker.
