Windlass wiring help

Why not add a switch in the system that would connect the battery directly to the foot switches.... Label the switch something like: Engine off windlass power.

The switch would normally be left in the off position, so the engine would have to be running to use the windlass. Then on those rare occasions like quiet hours or engine failure, then flip the switch on.
OK, sounds like a good idea. But want to be sure I understand how my current system is working so I don't unintentionally fry something. Thanks.

The previous circuit is a real NO GO and would not reverse. Thanks RON20324 for pointing this out.
Please replace the previous with this one.

Moral - Don't design circuits at 2:30 AM no matter how simple it looks. (Its 02:50 today so I never learn!)

Note:- Tried to remove original drawing but SBO system doesn't seem to have that facility so it is now just overwritten with this one dated 25th July 2012.
