Windlass problem

I'm having a problem with my Quick Antares windlass on my B40. It does a fine job with chain, but when raising the anchor and it reaches rode, it slips, and sometimes the rode jams at the throughole into the well. There is no obstruction in the well. And the problem is not related to the switch from chain to rope rode.
Putting pressure on the pressure lever seems to help a bit

If raising the anchor the nylon rode should be going through first ahead of the chain, no? Lost me here.

of course, and that's the problem--the rope rode slips--when it eventually gets to the chain it works fine

Is the windlass rated for the size rope you are using?

I believe so, and it worked fine for 3 years
