Windlass on an 11A

Found a Simpson Lawrence windlass in excellent condition with real strong motor. Question: Has anyone put one on an 11A? The 11A has a triangular shaped door (lid) that opens and then you hand flay the rode then pile on the chain. Pulling up a 25lb anchor and chain is a bit challenging. Problem installing is you would bolt onto door and let line (rode and anchor for discussion) gravity feed into locker space that might be 12 deep. If it jams you would now have to open door and untangle line, plus you would have to handle the weight of the windlass bolted to the door. Option would be to move windlass further back on foredeck then use an angular hawse pipe and feed into a new locker placed off to one side of the vee birth. Option 2 would be to sail only in 7 feet of water and put long spud poles off of a bass boat. Thought I saw on this S2 Forum where it was done on either a 9.2 or an 11A. Any thoughts please

Can you mount the windlass on the deck behid the anchor locker door? Below is a 1982 S2 11A windlass mounted on the deck.

Thanks, that being option the "line" would feed down onto vee birth unless I can figure a way to send it off to the side. Being out on the Delta we have a lot of places away from traffic where the kids can swim and you can have a stern bbq. I am to that point-in-life where pulling an anchor can be like a full day workout. Don't want to give up sailing just yet. Hal

It’s actually over the anchor locker. They cut door in half and mounted it on the fwd half

Oh. Appears they did a good job of it.

Would think you would need to reinforce the forward half.

Yes..i split mine fore/aft. The stbd side was glassed into the deck along with more layers on the door. Looks OEM and I can stall the windlass with absolutely no deck movement. I do have to flake…one of the reasons for splitting this way was so I can get access to everything underneath on both sides all the way up.

I put mine behind the anchor locker and it feeds through the deck forward into the locker pretty nicely.
