Have tried the anchor windlass a few times on our recently purchased 1998 410. Whether it is winding the rope or chain, it tends to jam unless you keep tension on the tailing end (which is awkward and dangerous). Has anyone come up with a solution to make this work better? At leaast our anchor, a delta, works great! it usually grabs the first time and holds. Mike

...on your new boat. I also have a 98 h410, hull number 47, and am assuming you have the simpson/lowrance sprint atlantic windlass. If this is the case, you might find it comforting to know that it doesn't jam on my system. I suspect the problem is that your rode has been fed in from a coiled position, and that there is enough twisting tension to keep jamming it. Try taking it off the boat, stretching it out all the way down the dock, and getting all the twists out. Feed it back into the chain locker without coiling it first. Also, make certain you've got the right chain and rode. Mine requires either 5/16 BBB or 5/16 High Test. Proof coil chain will jam.
