Windlass not working on oceanis 31

Hey everyone,

This is the first boat I've owned with an electronic windlass. It's a 2008 model with very little use from her previous owner - she is new to me as of september!

I'm assuming this is user error - but I can't get it to work - there appears to be no power to the remote that plugs into the anchor locker. I know there is a breaker switch by the main battery switch but beyond that I'm lost.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have an arm powered winch but have seen previous comments regarding some electric winches only working when the engine is running.

Correct - if this is a factory installed windlass it will only operate when the engine is running. If it still doesn't work - try the breaker which on other B boats is located adjacent to the battery switches.

Note the breaker is a large capacity breaker vs what you're seeing on the 12v panel.

If it still doesn't work with the motor on check the remote that plugs into the anchor locker. These things often fail (I'm on my second one and it's going). Test those three little holes that the remote plugs into to see if there is power. If there is power your remote is defective.

If you need a quick fix to operate the windlass without the remote I can post that.

On the other hand, while the remote MIGHT powered off the control/relay unit, it may be wired off some other breaker. It would have a maybe 3-amp inline fuse or breaker somewhere. Turn on other breakers and see if it works. I wired in a second up/down rocker at the helm, and it just taps into the instrument 12v feed.

Ditto on the fuse. I had a Lewmar windlass that had a fuse near the controler. This is in addition to the circuit breaker. Look in your manuel. If you don't have a manuel, find one on-line. Good luck.
