I'm looking for information as to what model windlass I can install on my boat. I'm planning some extensive cruising and have added a 35# anchor with 30' of chain and realize there may dificulty in hauling anchor without mechanical assistance. Most windlass I see call for the rode to be deployed vertically after retrieving...with the shallow anchor locker it wont work, I believe I need one that will deploy the rode horizontally. I expect to have to flake the line upon retrieval. Anybody ever added a windlass to a 336? What brand and model? Any particular difficulties?

I have the same question for a H33.5

Sounds like the 336 and my 335 have similar anchor well configurations. Mine may be complicated by the roller furling that penetrates the deck at the bow end of the locker. Thanks for asking the original question. I hope we both benefit. George (Genesis)

I added an Electric Windlass to my 336

We had the same problem. I saw another 1995 336 at a Hunter Rendeavous that had a horizontal electric windlass installed and I copied his. I purchased a LoFrans Progress 1, which has sufficient power and has worked great for me. I chose the LoFrans because of the ease with which it could be installed and for the small amount of headroom it required in the V-Berth. Installed it about 5" behind the back of the anchor locker (same problem - shallow anchor locker) and it feeds around the capstan 180 degrees and into the locker. I use a hand remote to operate it and simply push the chain and rode forward as it come off the windlass - this is easy to do. I ran the heavy guage electrical wires down the cable chase on the starboard side of the main cabin and between the cabin liner and the deck. I also installed a piece of stainless steel on the lip of the locker so that the chain wouldn't chip off the gelcoat. If you would like photos of my installation, please e-mail me at c.nielsen@shaw.ca and I will happily e-mail them to you (will be gone cruising until May 23). Regards

I bought a boat with a vertical windlass

I purchased a boat with a Maxwell windlass installed forward of the anchor locker. It deposits the line and chain forward into the storage area under the forward v-berth. If you want I can explain further if you e-mail me at BHURDLES01@AOL.com Brian Hanna s/v The Journey
