We are purchasing 1985 Catalina 30 and want to put a windlass on. Any suggestions about type, ammount of chain, etc. We sail on Lake Champlain. We are very excited after owning a 22 Catalina since 1980. Thanks
Ive never seen a windless with all chain road and self lanching anchor.I have a35lb plow anchor on a West marine plow anchor roller that mounts on stb side of the bow sprit over the ss platewith teak blocks to take up the space in frount of the ss plate between the new roller and the catalina bow sprite .the 35lb plow anchor is a little long and hangs over the anchor locker and you have tolift the anchor to open the locker the 25lb plow fits good but I like the larger anchor for the windy dark nights . I use a5/16 chain 15' feet long and 200' 5/8 nylon rode I have a windless In the rear of the locker mounted sideways with a foot switch under the locker cover It works good but you have to leve the helm to anchor up or down and the winless is nylon rode only so the chain is pulled by hand and that is still hard most of the time Im in lessthen 10 feet of water and I moter up on the anchor and fight with the chain at the end of the rope . I dont think a bunch of chain siting In the locker would help a C 30 sail anty better the plow anchor with mount and chain would add alot of waight to the bow. John Olson
