Seems like this might be a good time to buy a windlass. I have a 25 lb Manson Supreme anchor and would like to get opinions on brands like Lewmar and Maxwell, pull power suggested, horizontal or vertical, and any other considerations I should think about. Thanks all.

Of vertical or horizontal shaft, the H can be used to lift the dinghy onto the deck, lift someone in a bosun's chair.

I shopped and purchased a windlass this past spring and settled on the Lewmar H3. You won't need that much windlass, but the price was right, and the installation was straightforward. Included the proper circuit breaker. Built in solenoid, so the wiring just needed a simple buss for the DC cables. Worm-gear drive, smooth and quiet.

I got the Lewmar 1000 for my B32. The 700 MIGHT have been okay, but IIRC, you could not power DOWN? No regrets. CQR 35 177 ft chain.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Never thought about the advantages that a Horizontal windlass has.
Ron, on line I can find no reference to the Lewmar 1500 or Lewmar 750. Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks

Sure, sorry about that. I was speakingin general terms of the Lewmar, but got it confused with something else of 1500 rating. It is the Lewmar Pro-series H1000. The smaller is the 700. Sorry for those i may have confused. That's the hazard of thinking after midnight.

Also have to consider space you have and where you'll mount it. I'm not sure you would have room for an on deck or high profile windlass. Most I've seen is the Lewmar vertical style. I don't have one and haven't really researched it too much beyond seeing installed in pictures.

Our 2009 Hunter 33 came from factory with a Lewmar Vertical Windlass installed. I believe it is model 700 (not 100% sure). It looks identical to the photos that Scott B shared.

It has buttons on the foredeck for power up and down, can also freewheel down as well. Never had a problem with it, works great and tails itself well enough.
