Les - Windlass follow up
Hi Les -Sorry about the delayed reply. I've been busy with the Seattle Boat Show (I work at a small company called The Offshore Store and am exibiting all week). I don't have specific answers to some of your questions (wire and hole sizes) since I don't own the boat anymore. I purchased the windlass at a blowout sale so didn't have the option of the drum at the time. While the drum is a nice feature (the windlass can then be used as a power winch for hauling crew up the mast with use of a snatch block, among other things), the lower profile without it looks nicer in my opinion. The unit came with a template, so the only big holes needed was the through-deck hole for the motor and the footswitch (I opted for power up only, but it would be easy to add a second switch for poewr down). I also had to notch the anchor hatch doors to allow the chain to fall into the locker. Power usage is considerable (I'd have to check Lewmar's site for numbers), but I typically have the engine running when pulling the anchor, so the alternator more than compensates. I have sailed off the hook before in ideal conditions - what fun! I installed an aftermarket bow roller (double) called a "Kingsprit" that required no modifications to the existing stock rollers (apparently sourced from the factory from Toys R Us) - see related link below on the Kingsprit - pardon the cheesy site with awful sound track. Perhaps a little clunky looking, but very functional. Sorry I don't recall more details, but feel free to inquire further - something may jog my tired brain!Best,Trevor
