I am looking at installing a windlass for our 37.5. The current manual windlass (that's me) is getting well aged, and hand-over-hand just won't do it anymore. There isn't enough room (height) in the anchor locker for the windlass, and also our spare anchor is currently occupying that space. I think I am going to install a vertical Lewmar Conecept 1 model on deck with a dedicated battery in the v berth's hanging locker. The reason for a dedicated battery is because the wireway on this boat is just too small to run 2 big wires (around 35' long each) from the battery locker in the cockpit, and the charging wires from the engine would be smaller and easier to run.As for the location, I am planning to install it on deck just aft of anchor locker, with the center of the hole located about 18" aft of front edge of nonskid and 6" from starboard edge of nonskid. The rode will not drop straight down into the v berth, but will pay out towards the bow and into the anchor locker, with a stainless plate to protect the gelcoat. The foot switches may end up in the anchor locker.Has anyone tackled a similar project? Which windlass did you end up installing and what suggestions do you have? I am open to all input. Thanks in advance.John
