The windex on my Catalina 30 is in a location where it is impossible to get a tool around the bottom nut. It is up in the shiv on the masthead where the metal is thick. I sent someone up the mast a few weeks ago to put on my new windex. They didn't get the nut tight enough so it worked its way loose and spun around. A nut driver will not fit in this location. The only way that we could tighten it was to wedge a regular screw driver beside the nut and turn the bracket that the windex goes onto. Has anyone had a similar problem and been able to solve it when they sent someone up the rigging? Does anyone have any suggestions that may be able to help? We are thinking about trying to spin it on again and putting locktight or trying to put a lock washer on the nut (it will be a hard job to put the washer on there because there isn't much room to play with).

Have you tried a high quatity 1/4 inch rachet like

a Snap-On. They have a thinner more compact head than a cheap o.

Not enough room

Way to tight.....you can just barely get a screw driver to the side to place it against the nut. There isn't enough room for something to wrap all around it.

Add a small (narrow) plate on top to move your windex aft 1 or 2 inches

so you can bolt it up correctly. It might even make it easier to see and I think that's the way they are usually mounted to keep the windex clear of your anchor light. Good luck Joe S

As I recall..

...the base of the mount has a stainless nut that screws onto a stud mounted in a black plastic base. That base has a two flats on either side to accept an open ended wrench. If you turn the base with the wrench it will lock onto the nut. The windex mast can then be inserted and a set screw is used to locate and lock the "V" at the top.
