Windex bird spike disappearing...

Anybody else keep losing the bird spike from their windex 15? I lost the first one last year, and replaced it before launching this year. Now it's gone too. I even used a little blue loctite on the theads this year. The spike has the jeweled bearing that the vane spins on, so helps to have it there, not to mention the bird problems.
Am I doing something wrong? The vane still turns without the bearing and spike, so not a total loss, but curious.

If the Windex 15 is the larger of the two that they market, then I have that one and I lost the spike just a few weeks after installation. I put in the plug the following year. I don't seem to need the spike to discourage the birds.
