Hello, I have a Raymarine GPSe7 displays, ST40 depth sounder and ST40 speed indicator. I would like to add a wind system with my existing equipment, I know that the ST40 models are discontinued so what wind system can I install that would still be compatible with what I have :banghead:

Have you checked your manual. The Raymarine website is full of manuals and information. Your e7 MFD can receive NMEA0183 signals on Seatalk. The following is taken from one of the Raymarine e7 manuals.
The NMEA0183 standard carries similar information to Sea Talk. How ever it has the important difference that one cable will only carry information in one direction. For this reason NMEA0183 is generally used to connect a data receiver and a transmitter together, (e.g. a wind sensor transmitting wind angle/wind speed to a display). This information is passed in‘sentences’,each of which has a three letter sentence identifier. It is therefore important when checking compatibility between items that the same sentence identifiers are used some examples of which are:
• VTG - carries Course and Speed Over Ground data.
• MWV - carries relative wind angle and wind speed data.
You should be able to install a raymarine wind transponder to your seatalk backbone and see your wind data displayed on your MFD. You'll see many posters on this forum encouraging use of same manufacture sensors with MFD's. So the easy step would be to visit a Raymarine dealer and pick their brain.
With the current winter weather messing with the boating activities, you may find them very willing to give you a hot cup of coffee and talk your ear off.

What seatalk (1,2,ng, or HS) do you have? I'd recommend upgrading with future expansion/replacement in mind and embrace the horror of SeaTalkng. It is backward compatible with ST1,2
