Don't have an unlimited budget, but would like to be able to judge apparent wind speed when underway. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Scott 83-H34 Island Hops

No money and lotsa desire

I know what you are talking about. I have done some research and the Nexus line of instruments has a lot of features. They can be purchased starting around $8-900. Practical Sailor did an article on them and liked them too. I do not know their web site, but you should be able to find it on the web.

Get a handheld

You can get a digital handheld from West Marine for about $100. I think the brand is a Kestrel or similar. Certainly for the budget minded this is the way to go. Besides it saves all that weight and wind resistance that you don't want aloft!
