How much of a difference does having a wind scoop make? If you only have one jib halyard can your raise the scoop with the main halyard?

Are there any hang ups to a wind scoop?

Just looking for opinions on them because I like to keep a cooler boat and any little thing helps!

Do you have a pole connector on the front of your mast?

You could use that with some line. Guess the main halyard is on the wrong side of the mast, but doable if you can eliminate the halyard slap on the mast if there's a bit o'breeze.

As I recall, you have a good house bank setup, have you considered low amp draw fans instead? If there's enough of a breeze outside, your fine and good sized forward hatch should do if at anchor. If anywhere else, sideways breezes won't get in without a scoop of some kind.

I prefer the Breeze Booster over the windscoop. No lines, it sets up and breaks down in less than a minute and it can be turned in any direction. I have been using one for years. See the link.

They make them for portlights also.

Hi bad obsession: I use my wind scoop and tie it off using sail ties. I join two sail ties together and then run them from the headsail furler thru the scoop and tied to the mast. If there is a breeze outside the scoop works wonders, specially if you sleep in the v berth right under it.

We have a wind scoop and some nights out at anchor would be miserable with out it. When we anchor out, the wind scoop is one of the first that I set up. It is great to have during the evening because it makes the cabin feel like it has air conditioning.

Mine has three lines attached to it, two at the bottom that I secure inside the cabin, and then one on the top that I simply tie to the headsail furler. Pretty simple, no need to use a halyard.

At anchor or any place without shore power, it's a 'must have' for me. I use a spinnaker halyard with a bungee to the forestay to keep it upright. I also have a soft screen that velcro's to the hatch....helps keep nocturnal winged intruders at bay.... :)

Even in summer on the gulf coast I have had to pull down the wind scoop as I was too cool sleeping in the v-berth. With the companionway hatch open you can get a really good breeze.

Wind Scoops

We have a Down The Hatch that goes in the V berth hatch, No halyard I have a piece of 1/8 line that I tie around the R/F jib and then to the mast and a short length of line goes from that to the host of the scoop. Works well and it all goes in the bag with the scoop.

We also have a Breeze Booster (new last year) that we use in the mid cabin hatch, It is great and worth the price! About 30 sec to install or remove.

These are both in place within 3 minutes of anchoring or picking up the mooring if it is above 80 outside.

Once you try one you will wonder how you got along without it.
