Wind Instruments

I'm getting ready to install radar on a stern mounted radar tower. I thought it would also be a good opportunity to add an anemometer on the radar mast. All of the wind instruments in the West Marine catalog are pricey. Somehow it doesn't seem like one of these relatively simple instruments ought to cost several hundreds of dollars. Anyone have any recommendations on reliable, cost effective wind instruments? Thanks. Gary Wyngarden S/V Shibumi H335

Nexus System!

Gary: Before you spend $1000 on a wind instrument check out the Nexus system. For about $1300 you can have everything speed, depth, wind, compass etc etc. Everything can be displayed on a single display or it can be set up to have as many displays as you want (32 max). Obviously the masthead IS the place to be!

Not going to work!

Gary: Having all that information at your office is not going to help. When your 'TIPPY OLD BOAT' heals over, all of that pent up frustration goes sliding out of your head. You really do not need any instruments for this. In fact, you are probably better off without any instruments.

Save a few $$$$...check these out!

You might want to take a look at the instruments made by Moor Electronics of Buffalo, NY. If you happen to have a Defender catalogue you can find the instruments in there with pictures and descriptions. They are good instruments that work well and will replace most instruments on older boats.
