Is a wind genny too much weight aloft for a C22 swing keel?

My honda 2000 has died and I need more power than I think I can get with solar without adding a huge bracket to the stern and making it difficult to access the swim ladder.

I usually stay out a week at a time or more.

The power that you can extract from the wind is directly proportional to the area of the wind turbine and increases as to the square of the wind speed. E=MV². You will have to have compensating ballast in the form of batteries low in the boat in order to store the energy the turbine captures. maybe better you should reduce your consumption.

Air weighs .076 pounds per cubic foot. A 4 foot diameter wind turbine has a disk area of about 12 square feet. air blowing at 15 MPH is moving at 22 feet per second. Therefore 12x22=264 cubic feet per second or 20 pounds of air per second. 1 Horse power = 760 watts or 550 pound feet per second. 20/550=.036 HP or 27 watts. That presumes 100% efficiency which isn't going to happen. If you are very good you may get 25% or about 7 watts.

I have both. I get more out of the solar than from wind. And you don' want to listen to a w/g howl at night. They will thrum thru the entire boat regardles of the mountings
