I need info on my self tailing winches I need to get them apart so I can oil and clean them but I can not figure out how. There is no split ring on the top like my other winches any info would help. They are on a 1974 cal "Telco Self Tailing Winch, Newell Pat No. 3,343,809, Woolsey Marine Ind Inc. USA Model 160thanks lee

Either there is a fastener inside the hole where the handle fits or the ring around that opening is removed with a spanner. Are there two small holes (appx. 3/16") on the top of the winch? Is there an allen female at the bottom of the winch handle hole?

Retainer Only

I had this same pair of sheet winches that I purchased and mounted on my 30'in 1975. The only way to service them was to remove a retaining ring in a grove on top of the drum. there was no screw down in the socket to remove.
