Winches for headsail/sizing

Morning we sail a hunter 326. Currently the winches for all lines are near the cabin hatch in front of the wheel. Going to install winches on either side of the helm coamings. This was an option on the 326. Looking at self trailing lewmar 30 two speed winches. Anyone have winches in this location? If so pros and cons. Thanks!

We sail an h320 and at some point in time considered it but decided against to avoid the clutter of blocks and lines leading past a main entry way into the cockpit.

I have that setup on my H30 and like it. An advantage is that I can easily trim or release the sheet while steering. A disadvantage is that if you have inexperienced folks sitting on the seats, they have to move to trim the sheets or tack.

Pros and cons each way.

A Lewmar 30 sounds awfully small for jib sheets. We have Lewmar 46s for that service. Since you already have the boat and know the size of your jib(s) (largest one), you should go to the winch website for proper sizing. Good luck.

I fitted Lewmar 16 on the coaming for Assym Spinnaker use. I don't fly spin above 10 kts wind so size 16 works fine for me.
