Since it looks difficult to find a path to lead halyards back to cockpit on 1985 Oday 26, I will probably put 1 or 2 winches on mast. How do you bolt teak base block to mast (put winch bolts all the way into mast or use separate bolts inside block tapped into mast). Will tapped threads in mast hold winch load??

Don't Give Up on Leading Lines Aft
Brad, I have an OD25 and have managed to find a path for all halyards to lead back to the cockpit. A half a dozen blocks, longer lines and cleats or clutches is all thats needed. In addition I have a few other work projects on my OD25, PANGIA, as jpegs, including an anchor sprit, diesel install, full cockpit enclosure, homebuilt rudder etc. If its of value I will upload them to this website. It can be done
I lead my main halyard aft and it works great. At the base of the mast (starboard) I installed a stand up swivel block. Next I installed a cheek block on a small piece of teak that I sanded down on an angle so that the halyard would feed with out binding. I located this next to the teak hand rail angled back from the mast. This enabled the halyard to pass just in front of the hatch rail. I then installed a bullseye fairlead alongthe hatch rail back a few feet to guide the halyard back to the cockpit. At the back edge of the cockpit I installed a rope clutch in front of a small winch. I used a piece of sheet aluninum about 6in. X 12 in. for backing of the clutch and winch on the cabin ceiling. my phone # is (916)485-4548

Brad: get a copy of the West Marine Sail catalog. They have very helpful artices on how to install various devices. And I agree with the others that suggest you look at leading the halyards to the cockpit again. I did it on my 27 without a lot of trouble and it was well worth the time and expense.
