Has anyone used those rubber winchers for self tailing? I'd be
interested is anyones opinion.

Richard,

I am curious about those as well? They are on the Vega
that we just put a deposit on and I wondered the same
thing. In the meantime, have you seen these?

Chris-
I had not heard of the Winchmate. However I have Lewmars and they
will not fit on those according to the mfgrs.

Hi Richard
In my opinion they are a waste of time. If you want self-tailing then
fit proper self-tailing winches- only way.

Hi Richard,

That is true. They only work on the Barlows. But worth
a shot, they look like a nice "affordable" fix for
winches without having to go drop 2K in new ones. I
will be curious to see how the rubber ones work on our
boat this spring.

-Hi Richard
I´ve tryed this device since last summer, and regard it as a big
improvement. You have to get enough sheet on the winch, so it´s
jammed against the rubber, then you can drop it, and have two hands
free for double grindingpower. It was quite a challenge though to
mount them, takes four hands and some grease.

Kind regards

Torben

I have them on my Lewmar 16s. They really don't make them self tailing, but
do help some if you put enough wraps on to jam the sheet up against the
bottom of them. Helpful if single-handed, but I could do without them. Mine
are badly weathered and I probably won't replace them, but then I might if I
miss them. Self tailers are too expensive for me. Bill Bach V1071
