I have Lewmar ST40's on my boat. Recently I was having trouble with one and discovered that one of the gear spindles is bent. I attempted through my local repair shop to order a replacement part. When it arrived it was the wrong size. Apparently there have been many changes to the specs on this particular winch over the years. Thumbing through the repair manuals we found no less than 5 differenct gear spindles used over the years. While the manuals list part numbers they list no sizes. Also, none of the documentation that came with the winches indicates the actual date of manufacture. Does anyone know if there is a way to determine the manufacture date? The repair manuals indicate the change dates for the parts. This does me no good without a way to tell the age of the winches. Thanks,

Rick

Manufacture date

The manufacture date of your boat might eliminate some if the winches are original equipment. If Lewmar accepts returns, you could keep ordering until you get the right part. Or, order the four remaining possibilities and return the ones that don't work. Not an ideal solution but at least it will get your winch back together. Good luck
