Bill, I think he was referring to the WINCH...
Bill: I think that Jon is referring to the WINCH and not the handle. There is a difference in the sizes and power of winches. Most of these production boats are equiped with undersized winches. Jon, if you are replacing them, I would purchase new ones based on the Mfg. recommendation for YOUR boat size. If you are close on their cut off size, move up one size on the chart.

two speed 27-45
depends on what year they changed from Barlow to Lewmar - mine are 27/45 two speed Barlows. Some would say they are undersized but with the relatively small jib on B&R rigs, generalizations are always dangerous - I find them fine.

If it's any help my 410, which has the same size sailplan as the 40.4, was specked with Lewmar 48 primaries and Lewmar 44 secondaries. I find them to be completely adequate.
