I saw a previous, recent, thread regarding the BOGO sale on Lewmar winches at West Marine. There’s a few days left to order and I won’t be able to get to the boat in that limited time. I want to order two speed self tailers, for port and starboard jib sheets. Can anyone tell me what size came stock, I know mine are original equipment. My boat is a 1978 H30 Cherubini. I believe they may be Lewmar 30’s, but not positive. Also what’s the difference between an EVO ### and an OCEAN ### Lewmar?

I put ocean 40ST on for my primaries on my C-30. Minnies had them for a screaming price - so I kinda had to. Prior winches were 40s but not ST. New winches had a different bolt pattern.

I'd never go back to non-st winches. It was a great improvement to the boat.

Hey Wayne,
I was just looking at pictures of mine; a 1980 30ft Cherubini, and I've got Lewmar single-speed 8s on the top of the cabin and then Lewmar 2-speed 40s on either side of the cockpit with Lewmar single-speed 7s just aft of them on either side.
I've been thinking of self tailing winches but what I've got works right now so it's hard to justify spending the extra $$ right now. After paying storage fees, slip fees and deck repair bill and buying a fancy chartplotter; the Admiral is insisting that we keep track of how much we are spending on the boat. She cracks me up.

Thanks Jack, 40’s it will be. I’m not rigged for the additional winches, so just wanna change out the headsail winches. No need for all the other stuff on Cayuga. I appreciate your response bro.

Glad I could help neighbor. Personally I thought there was a lot of extra gear on this boat when I purchased it, but I'm a gadget guy so that That was just like throwing gas on the fire.

Yeah...it’s all about the Admiral. This winter has had me sequestered indoors too much and just today she told me to order companionway doors from Zarcor.com. We decided to order a folding cockpit table instead, and I had to present the facts about running rigging as opposed to cosmetics. Not an easy task. We’re getting the winches, as opposed to the wenches desires.

I had to remove my 40's to rebuild them. The Port side is easy. The Starboard is a bch. It's mounted just above the water heater in the cockpit locker. So, unless you do yoga, have a waist less that 40 inches and are not claustrophobic, your in for a torture session.
Of course, you could remove the water heater first. :soapbox: :banghead:

Thought so...I only qualify for 1 out of the three. That’s why I love my motor-head daughter in law. :D

I gave up today and removed the water heater. Not so hard getting to the bolts but removing the WH... and putting it back in tomorrow...
