The main halyard winch on our Hunter 22 (it is a Lewmar) is in need of some repair work. I can not figure out how to remove it. If you are familiar with the boat the winch is mounted on the starboard side and to the rear of the cabin top. There must be a secret.... thanx garyg

Try the Lewmar Website

Here is a link to Lewmar. They have good exploded views of their winches in the parts area.

Try this

Take a wrench whose handles are vinyl-covered and stand the wrench up with the handles pointed down. Insert them in the wedges of the stainless steel piece and turn left. Should come out nicely. The rest is screws and springs, best consulted on the website. As a precaution, cut a hole in the bottom of a box and insert the box so you have something to catch falling and flying pieces. I was apprehensive about taking the winch apart, but you have a matching set to compare it to.
