I have a Maxwell 2-speed self-tailing winch ( for the jib sheet ) that's making that tell-tale whining meaning the bearings are gone. Assuming I can lose 25lbs before spring and get under the cockpit to get it off, or hire a skinny non-claustrophobic to remove it, I was hoping to take it apart and get some new bearings fitted to it. ( ever price 2-speed self-tailers? ) Of course, I might as well do both of them. Can I get at the bearings without removing the base?Has anyone had this experience? Any thoughts on whether it's worth it?
