I had quite a few gelcoat cracks around the starboard fwd winch. I figured I'd pull it, fix cracks, beef up the underside and rebed. I pulled the cover above the galley and found the bolts go through the inner liner and were loose since there is at least 1/4" between the liner and cabin top. Has anyone cut away the inner liner to secure the winches to the cabin top? Thanks! Rob

Winch Replacement

I just finish replacing all 4 winches. The portside over the cabin had a few gelcoat cracks. When I pulled the cover I found that 2 of the 1/4" bolts where drilled through both cabin top and cabin liner. They where loose. The rest (3) where drilled through only the cabin top. The cabin liner was cut way but not enough for all 5 bolts. I cut out more of the cabin liner with a cutoff wheel to get the space needed. I also increase the size on the fender washer from 1/2" to 1 1/2". The other side was OK the liner was cut out enough for all 5 bolts. I needed to drill new holes for the new winches bolt holes where not the same. Fill old holes with epoxy. Drill finding from new holes showed plywood inbed between the glass. (1987 H31 Windsong)
