Winch Grease?

I need to lubricate the winches on my H23 and the only stuff available from local sources is $38.00 a tube. Has anyone ever used the water resistant Lithium based greased commonly available at automotive supply stores?Do you know of any problems in using this grease? My winches are single speed 1:1 ratio units.Thanks for any input.Mark

Where does one grease a winch? Are there zerks? Would oil do?

Use winch grease

Use winch grease which you can get mail order from West Marine. Other stuff tends to mess up winches in short order.You won't need much grease, and the tube you buy will last a long time.MC

winch grease to use?

I bought winch grease from West Marine in a small tube for $5. DO NOT use any old grease on your winches, and for heaven's sake don't use oil. Take care not to drop any little parts overboard when you take your winches apart. Better yet, remove the winch from the boat and take it home to work on it. Makes a good winter project.
