While prepping the boat for the upcoming sailing season, I noticed that one of my primary winch covers was in bad shape. So, I went over to West Marine and bought two new winch covers. Although they looked pretty good, they wouldn't stay on the winch - kept popping off.

So, I looked in the "store" of this website and found winch covers. I ordered a set, with the slits for a line. I ordered them on a Saturday and they arrived on Thursday. (I live in PA).

Bottom line:
- excellent service
- excellent product
- fair price

Jack: Yes, isn't it amazing some of the crap that WM tries to sell us at TOP $ prices.

Thanks for supporting this site!

I have a couple of old canvas-style folding deck chairs that the frames have seen better days and the nylon will soon see even better days as I harvest the material for winch covers. Mind you, in two years I'll be replacing them again because they're not sunbrella, but the new boat has put a pinch on my pocket and I have a little time and a sewing machine...

Wonder what happened at WM? Back in '98 I bought my first set of winch covers at WM. I still use one but lost one. The original has an inside cover with shock cord, the outside is black sunbrella. When I lost one I had to make my own. None like the original was to be found at WM or anywhere else. Making a winch cover is a good way to get started in canvas sewing.

I was helping a dock neighbor dismantle some piece of his boat that wasn't going to be put back together that day and I suggested that he find a little bag for the parts. He didn't even have a plastic sandwich bag on board. If yoiu have a sewing machine make little bags, medium size bags make them like pockets, make them with draw strings but make a supply of cloth bags you will end up using them.

Last year I took my Sailrite machine and "scraps" of Sunbrella with me on vacation. I made 33 canvas tote bags from scraps- some of which were from the local canvas shop dumpster. I once found out a winch cover was more hassle than buying one, but with the color green I have I'll have to start making my own again.

I bought mine here ...

I love everything about ordering from this site ... just wish I was ordering more often. One problem that I had was that my winter cover has just enough rub on my winches during wind storms that it wore out the fabric over the winter. I need a new pair for my back winches. I have 2 pairs, one pair is a straight cover and the other pair has the openings for lines. Both fit very well, and stay in place.
