Hunter 23 WIll be at a Navy base
I am the genius with that had the broken mast 23 Hunter. I finally actually sailed her for the first time. It does very well, thank you. On to my new issues, the boat has Barlow winches made in Australia of which BArlow has changed hands at least twice that I can identify. When I bought the boat it did not have a winch handle, little did I realize. Does anyone have any idea where I can find a used one, preferably? Also, my new issue is that I had water in the cabin in the bilges. I found the place that is coming in but have no idea how to stop it. Also, it seems to only leak in a driving rain. It is coming in from the back of the top sliding hatch. I was washing the boat with a hose and watched it enter. I have no clue what to do besides put a tarp over the boom and bungie it to the life lines.:confused:

Not sure but I think most winch handles are compatable. Your water intrusion problems make me chuckle to myself. I don't hardly know of a 23 owner that doesn't or hasn't had a water in the bilge area. As for your hatch area, you'll just have to be creative on the low end like a tarp or a rubber flange on the aft end of the sliding hatch or spend the money for a dedicated hatch cover. I think Mr. Unix has one on his 23, btw it looks awesome. Good luck and I'm glad your 23 sails true.

My 23 doesn't get water in through the main entry hatch, unless of course I direct a hose at it from the rear.

Does the sliding hatch overlap past the aft end of the top of the hatchboards by an inch or two? Are the channels on either side of the slider clear, to let water flow down the cabin and into the cockpit? Is the traveler track well bedded? Are the hatchboards in good shape and do they overlap each other at an angle that directs water to the outside?

I have a companion way/ hatch cover. It was made by a neighbor that sews. I made the plastic template for it and then she went out with me and did it right. I purchased the Sunbrella material online and found the snaps at WM. Pictures of it in my profile.
My rear keel bolt leaks water into my rear bilge when the water temp is cool. Like all winter. I finally found out what my leak was after a year plus search. I will seal it with 5200 when the water warms up and it quits leaking. It only fills from the center to the top of the keel bolt. Check yours. Hope this helps, Charles
