We have recently purchased a 22 ft. Catalina, without a trailer. We do have a 21 ft. trailer for a Macgregor Venture. Will it work?

The trailer will most likely work with some modifications. You must do three things. First contact a local trailer shop. Tell them the number and length of the leaf springs that you have. This will tell you the weight rating of the trailer. If the catalina weighs the same then this is probably not an issue. Next the hull is a different shape than the McGregor. The bunks must be shaped to fit your hull exactly. If the bunks do not conform to the hull a localized stress riser will result. the bunks need to fit the hull as close as possible or the hull will be damged if allowed to sit there for a long time. You can get the measurements from another Cat 22 trailer. Third is the weight balance. If the boat is 3 foot longer the center of gravity will be 1.5 feet further. The boat winch will have to be moved forward.
