I have a Beneteau 323 andwant to upgrade my Bruce anchor to a 10 kg rocna. Will a rocna fit my bow roller and pulpit?

Paul it is possible ant yet maybe not. The question is doid the previous owner get the roller package from Beneteau or did they have a modification made.

You may need to examine the angles of the anchor shank to see if the roller will lift the anchor away from the bow when hauling the anchor in. Will the tip be held out and away from the bow. If not you may need a new bow roller to go along with your more aggressive anchor.

My rocna 25 fits my 423....... never crossed my mind to consider before I purchased it..... caution to the wind! Great anchors.....

Good luck

Easiest way to find out is to print the mock-up from the Rocna website, copy to cardboard, and try it in position. http://www.rocna.com/product-range/boat-fit

Although their knowledge base has boater's comments on how it fits, it does not include your particular boat: http://kb.rocna.com/kb/Category:Rocna_bow_compatibility

BTW: Great anchor, but based on their sizing guide, I would have guessed you'd want a 15 kg - 10 meter boat with a 4.2 ton light weight, so probably over 5 tons loaded.

I think I’ll try the cutout.
Thanks for the advice!

Check the swing at launch and retrieve. Some folk find they need to add a bow plate as the anchor swings some.

Nice, and plenty of room for larger, if you'd like. I can't see behind your spin bowsprit, but do you have a bail over your existing roller? It's possible in a seaway that your anchor bounces out of the track, and at just the time you don't want to walk up to the bow.

I can pull my 35lb CQR and I am a 60 year old desk jockey. I prefer to use the windlass but it doesn't have a chainwheel and the chain tears up the capstan so I need to pull the last 25' by hand.

Why are you going with the 10kg?
Well my boat is 10 meters and 4.2 to 5.2 tons. The rocna 10 is suggested for 10 meters and 4 tons or less. The rocna 15 is for 8.5 tons which seems oversized. I could get the Rocna Vulcan 12 which is rated for 6 tons at 10 meters. Same price as the rocna 15.

Personally, I like to sleep well at night so I prefer to go heavier rather than lighter.

On the travel lift two different years, the man says I am 13,000. I don't have the water/fuel load, but i carry a good amount of "Stuff" as George Carlin would have said. I have the CQR 35.

Anchor size and length of chain coupled with conditions you expect to be using the boat and the location.

Not all bays or bottoms are the same. Storm exposure is different for boats and sailors.

General recommendations are to choose a size up for those really bad days and no power being blown towards a lee shore.

As the underwater videos from SV Panope show long chain helps to keep the anchor on the seabed and pulling in a way to bury the anchor in the sea floor.

How strenuous is it to hand-bomb a 15k (33lb) anchor and chain?
Depends more on the amount of wind you’re pulling against while the anchor is still set, and how well it’s set. The last few yards after it breaks out (anchor and chain weight) are not as much of an issue.
Also, “strenuous” is a very individual thing based on strength and fitness level. One person might handle 100 pounds without too much effort, while someone else might struggle with 30.

On pulling in a large anchor, I do not use my strength (or the windlass) to break the anchor free from the bottom. I have my crew motor toward the anchor as I pull in the rode until the rode is almost vertical and then snub it. The forward momentum of the boat pulls much harder than I ever could. Once the anchor is free, I finish pulling in the anchor but then it is only the weight of the anchor and chain. If I am single handing, I lead the rode overt the deck, back to the cockpit so that I can pull in the rope rode and drive from the cockpit and cleat when it come up short.
