My Groco head is filling with sea water with the valve open or closed. I've read through the archives and think I'll go with a Raritan head, but I'm not sure which model will fit in my '85 C27. Has anyone replaced their Groco head with a Raritan and if so, which model fits best? ...any other advice on replacing the head would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Will a Raritan PHII fit in a C27

I have a 1985 Catalina 27 also. I was having the same problem with my GROCO even when I rebuilt it. I replaced this summer with a Raritan PH2. It fits but is a little tight on the forward bulkhead. I also cut 2" of the pump handle to make more room. I have nothing but satisfaction with the new installation. The only other problem with the raritan is the base trim plate does not fit very well so I left it off.

Build a new base if the fit is too tight.

... One of the C27 websites has a link to a head modification article. I'm sorry I don't have the link but in a nutshell: the head was modified to accomodate a slide out vanity by squaring up the toilet base with a piece of plywood. This provided more options to position the head. Remember that none of the plumbing goes beneath the base so you can pretty much put the unit wherever you want it.
