Thanks for your response. I will be the one replacing the holding tank on my H 28. I would appreciate any knowledge you gained when you replaced yours. It sure looks like I will have to cut the old one in half to get it out and I am not sure I will be able to find an 18 gallon unit to replace. So, tell me how bad it is going to be........

not to bad

I had to cut the old holding tank in half to get it out of my Hunter 28.. I rented a sawzall and it took about 5 min. to saw it in half.. I measured the hatch opening and went to West Marine and found a plastic tank that would fit through the opening. I ended up with a smaller tank but it worked well and the job really didn't take to long.. if I remember right I secured it with long plastic zip ties..

provided you're small

Steve, Tom's sawzall idea is great. Here's what I did: 1) remove port lazarette hatch & batteries, this opens up as much space as possible for access 2) make sure old tank is dry, try a hair dryer if needed 3) cut in half and "foldup" to fit pieces thru hatch 4) bought 6 gallon poly tank from West Marine that just barely fits thru the hatch, check your dimensions very carefully 5) it was a little tricky fitting the new tank thru the hatch, but used a little persuasion -- the real trick was turning the tank around hull shape so it fits in VERY TIGHT space 6) hook up new hose and fittings and tie down with nylon web belts. This all works great if you're a small guy, in fact the smaller the better. I'm 6'1" 200 lbs and I felt like a contortionist...but the options were even worse. Good Luck. If I can help further let me know. Greg Wilde

18 gallon tank for you!

I have an 18 gallon tank I have just removed from a 335. if you can find a way to get it from Canada, the price will be right.

I did it !

My original holding tank was leaking. You are right that you will have to cut it apart to get it out. Quite a nasty job. Also the only replacement I could get to fit through the aft access under the cockpit seat was a 15" tank. It is a plastic tank and works well but of course its capacity is quite limited.
