Saga is in her slip and all of her work was done...for a short time anyway. I decided, with all my modifications done and working correctly, to go for a quick overnight trip. I knew that I had ideal weather for going but knew that it would be heavy weather coming home.

Yesterday was a beautiful sail. I had a nice reach out of Colonial Beach all the way to Nomini Bay. I anchored there for the night.

Today I really had sail! I was in 10-15 sometimes, then 20 knots steady for a while with gusts over 25.

I was impressed with the way Saga held to it. The waves were smaller because I was on the windward side of the river. Still, I started with full main and my 150 fully furled out in the morning in the slower wind speeds. Pretty soon I shook a reef in the main and then furled the jib. I furled the jib down to about 90 percent for a while. It was a tight reach but I was doing okay. I still had to dump the main some in the really big gusts, these had to be over 25 knots.

As I was getting to the harbor I was pretty proud because I did the three hour sail back at good speed and kept the boat in control in heavy weather. I decided, since this was a rare day that I could actually sail into the harbor, to sail into the harbor. BIG MISTAKE!

As I was nearing the dock I started the furl my jib. The jib sheet got pinned in the fair lead block and I couldn't get it free. I circled for about 20 minutes until I was able to free it. I had to do it with a marlin spike and push it out of there.

Needless to say the fair lead block is shot! It is a Ronstan RF 1277 for 1" T Track. Of course they don't make that particular block anymore. I called Ronstan and the replacement that they mentioned was $240!!!! WTH?!?!?!?! I am currently debating the best and most economic way to replace this Genoa Sheet lead car. I checked ebay and other sources as well.

Schaefer makes a block that looks similar and I can get it from Worst Marine (I do have a gift card so that lessons the damage). It is still over 1 boat unit though.

Will any Genoa Sheet Lead car block work if it is for 1" T track?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Nice report. I have four of their bigger blocks that have wider openings to avoid the very problem you faced. Great sails are always great fun. Nice job.

Call Bacon Sails in Annapolis (410-263-4880). They probably have a used one in the bin of sheet blocks. You will probably find the entire car and block. Make sure they are open Saturdays if you are going to drive in. I don't know if the summer hours have begun. Check their web site baconsails.com.

That is why I always carry my knife with me. Don't know if I would have waited for 20 minutes to cut that line.

If you stayed at the dock, nothing would have broke! I guess we will never learn...

I found a Schaefer replacement at West marine...I had them order it. $119. Ouch!

Such is life, I guess. I tried a few other options but I think that the Schaefer is the best one. I thought of cutting the block off and putting another block in place but the car doesn't have a big enough hole to get a new block in there.

The sad part is that I know that I will have to replace a few other blocks as well in the future. Ugh, hopefully they last a bit longer.

BS, WADR. We told you about Garhauer, twice. That block is only $50! We're always trying to help, and know you are on a budget. Catalinas, one of which you used to own, may have had Garhauer all over it, unless it was so old it had the old Seawind blocks on it. It is frustrating when we help with a really quality recommendation for half the price and then we hear someone feels they had to spend twice as much and says Ouch. Really, now...

Stu, nothing personal, just had to use West Marine and they only had the Schaefer one. I had a $100 gift card to West Marine. I forgot to include that piece of information.

Alright Stu....I can't take this anymore. You are right.

I just ordered 2 of those blocks and I am cancelling the West Marine Order. I will find something else to do with the West Marine Gift card.

That is just too affordable, two for the price of 1.

For about the price of the replacement for the old block, you could get the Garhauer EZ Glide remotely adjustable jib cars for the 1-in track...an awesome upgrade you could have greatly appreciated in your great story above!
