I have a 1987 O'Day 322. During a recent rigging inspection, the rigger noted some wear in the gooseneck. The gooseneck is a three piece unit. The first part is riveted to the mast and has three ears. The second part, the toggle, has two ears at one end and a horizontal hole at the other end. The third part, on the boom, has jaws which fit over the horizontal hole and are held there by a clevis pin with a safety cotter. The toggle ears mesh with the mast part ears and they are held together with a vertical stainless steel pin. So far so good except that the vertical pin is not a clevis pin, has no cotters, and appears to have been pressed in. I have checked with US Spars and RigRite and they do not recognize the gooseneck. Does anyone know who O'Day used for goosenecks and, more important, how does one take this thing apart. If it were a door hinge, I would drive it out from the bottom (the bottom ear is the thickest one) and, since the fitting is aluminum, I would not use a torch to expand the fitting because aluminum does not always repond well to heat. I am somewhat leery of starting to beat on my mast with a 2 pound sledge without knowing if that is the correct thing to do. Can anyone help me?
