WiFi kit from IslandPC arrived

Yes, there have been many, many discussions about wifi. Chuckbear and Sum have made many contributions. Try a search on wifi, it'll give you lots of reading, and click on Chuck's signature link to his blog, lots of great stuff there. Includes your new rig, which is very good.
We have basically what they sell and I would recommend them before piecing the parts together unless you are into that as it can be confusing and they will hold your hand.
I think the max distance we connected has been about 4-5 miles when we were anchored in Pelican Bay off Charlotte Harbor. The connection is going to depend more on the shore station since they will be the weak link.
On the height I think they use to recommend about 12 feet on their site and that is...
.... about what we are off the water (arrow above). That will get you 4+ miles even with the earth's curvature. Higher might not hurt, but your signal and the one on shore isn't going to get out more than 5 miles max anyway so not a whole lot of benefit going higher in my opinion.
