widgeon vs sunfish

For a middle aged beginner, which would be preferable: an O'day widgeon or a sunfish? Thank you.

I would go with the Widgeon. While you can learn a lot from a lateen rig and while the Sunfish type boat is a load of fun, the chance to work with a jib and a main and all the attendant rigging will give you the basic principles of sailboat handling.

Widgeon

I would go with the Widgeon. You can learn a lot with a Widgeon and stay dry as well as have a friend along. Great little boat.
