You should be able to do the Dismal Swamp Canal route from NC in 10 days barring brakdowns, excessive layover for bad weather and such. We came from Norfolk all the way to Beaufort SC at a fairly leisurely pace (no really long days) in 13 days and Beaufort is a long way South of Oriental. My cruise speed is about 6 1/2 knots, for most of the trip when motoring. If the timing is right, I recommed a stop at the Dismal Swamp Canal visitor center (free dockage, no electricity though). Its about half way up the canal. There are a few seafood eatery's along the route that will let you tie up overnight for free if you eat there and there is room.Yeah.... I saw your video... it is awesome and inspiring. I hope to do the great dismal swamp canal this summer. On my list but the timing is going to be tight. I have 10 days marked and I'm starting in Oriental NC... so... probably wont get that far. But who knows.... just added an auto tiller to my bag of tricks and just might make a lot more ground (uhm... water) than I'm used to. I've sailed a little around Kiptopeake and I've sailed to St. Micheal's, Annapolis and Tangier. All interesting places.
