With the C42 MkII does anybody know where the extra 2500 lbs go ?

Good Question

Will I assumed it would go into the keel for more stability, but the specs say no. It must be a different layout to the C42 and I expect the extra weight is consumed in the Hull structure and layout design. Maybe you could ring Catalina. They are one nice yacht. Wayne

Larger Engine

I also noticed the Mk11 has a larger engine. It wouldn't take a lot to use 200LB.

Hey Will

Yeah, its me again! The mk 1s always weighed more than the factory specs so I think the factory changed the specs to more closely match the real world. My mkII is considerably over the design weight according to the strain guage at the KKMI yard in Richmond, CA. But then the water and fuel tanks were full, the dinghy & outboard were on the davits, 300 feet of chain in the anchor well, and a 980Ah house battery bank. Sheesh, no wonder it was heavy! It still floats on its lines though. I see you are in Sausalito. If you would like to talk via landline, contact me via the Owner's directory on this website and we can exchange contact info. Rodney Thanks for reply. Would be good to talk to you as it looks like the C42 will be the way we go. My sister is visiting at present so will find your number and call next week. Do well Will.

Weight

300 feet of chain??? Its a wonder she don't nose dive into the first wave. I have a C38 and she had 60 metres of chain ( 200 feet ) plus a big plough anchor ( 50 LB ) I just removed 40 metres and installed a Rasco anchor which weighs 10LB. She sails so much better now. You don't need all that chain if you have a good anchor, last week I deliberatly anchored in 20-25 knots with a sandy bottom, she didn't move an inch, the Rasco just buries its self, and retracts easy. Do you guys use plough anchors? Being an engineer I made my anchor from Stainless Steel, I also made a smaller one just in case.
