hey Roger, the "tang" system you have always had one big problem and that was angle...we used this system 20 years ago but made each set of tangs to the angle needed so the shroud made a direct line to the chainplate. Today all spar builders use the stemball system which allows full articulation. I would make new tangs that line up, or if you want to do a little more work, remove the tangs and fit new attachments below the spreaders which will spread the load and help the spreader area. The lower tang bolt must bear down on the mast with a compression tube; the spreader plate is a back up to this...when you look for rigging give me a shout as I know a few good people..... Cheers.
