Here's an easy way..

Phil must have long links blocked but here's an easy way to get there. Copy and paste the item number below then click on the "related link" to eBay and paste it into the top search box under the eBay logo in the top left of the screen. Right click & copy this item number: 330130399577 Click the link to eBay below and paste it into the top search bar: http://www.ebay.com/

I missed something

Maine Sail, I'm sure I am coming along late in the story. What is the problem with the eBay listing? BTW: Your new boat is an absolute beaut! That blue (Awlgrip S&S if I remember correctly) is gorgeous. Josh

The point being made is a guy in Australia trying to sell a boat that doesn't even belong to him.

Ummm the guy does not own it...????

The guy trying to sell it does not own the boat or have any vested interest in it! I know the new, and very happy owner, he keeps the boat less than three miles from where I live and it's NOT for sale. This eBay scammer was trying to sell a boat he did not even own by copying and pasting information off of Yachtworld. Sorry I can't explain the scam any more clearly than that..

Main Sail...

...report the seller to eBay through the listing link. That is the way to prevent this type of thing from happening in the future!

Trying to take advantage of Ebay is what this scammer is up to. He could just as well have run a newspaper ad and you wouldn't blame the newspaper for it. I would report it to Ebay and let them handle it. I've bought and sold on Ebay for years and have never had a problem.

Happens all the time

on eBay - just let them know (via the help section) and they'll remove it. I've sold PWC's on there and have found a few of my listings that have been copied - text, pictures, everthing. Pretty funny to see your own item out there, usually in some far away place, for sale.

It doesn't matter where

you are ,there are people out there doing a disservice and ready to put the screws to ya. Ebay can no more be blamed than some false reporting of the news. Ebay offers a service, period. They sell nothing, buy nothing. I have been with Ebay from the beginning. I have never had a problem, either buying or selling. Well, once, when the item I bought was in Canada. Thats a hassle and costly too. Keep it up, Ctskip

Gotcha

Alright, I understand now. I remember you saying that you sold your boat, I thought that the person who bought it was turning around and selling it on eBay. My mistake, sorry to ruffle feathers... I am slow.

Wow, he relisted too.

Wow, this guy even relisted it here: 330130960459 He even copied the misspelling of "meticously" in the description. Well, I reported it to eBay, too. Maybe if they get enough notices, they'll bounce his account. Kevin

I too have dealt

for a long time with eBay with no problems. In fact I bought my boat there. A buyer should at least visit the boat before bidding, and have a survey done if it is an expensive boat before parting with any money. They are not at fault, the lying toad who placed a false listing is. eBay is very good at policing themselves and keeping the market place honest. This guy obviously made several clean transactions to get his 100% rating just to enact his scam. Report it to ebay and they will pull the listing and shut him down.

never had any problem with ebay...

I've only had good results with ebay. You can't blame ebay they only provide a service. Crooked people are everwhere. Our homebuilder in Miami received deposits from buyers on the day he went defunct. Car dealers constantly advertise low ball cars that don't exsist. Just buyer beware.

Wow this guy has Ball$...

He has re-listed my boat a second time after being shut down by eBay once. If eBay is so great why is his account still even active. There have been at least six people that I know of who have reported this clown yet he's still at it with the same account. I have emailed eBay and the authorities in Australia about this individual too. Why is it that someone who has been taken advantage of, namely me, can't post feedback about a seller on eBay. Oh yeah you actually have to get scammed before you can post feedback! I stick to my guns on this one eBay is full of scammers because their policies allow it!

look at the companies doing business

in Africa, via the computer. Buying goods with stolen credit cards and having them mailed to an address here, then having them mailed to Africa. Great scam. Lots a money involved. Watch your credit cards closely. There is only so much a company can do. The rest is up to the lawyers/judges and police. A law must be broken first, then the culprit must be found. And the law must have proof a law was broken. The wheels of justice grind slowly. Thats why there are vigilante groups, providing street justice. Which one do you want? If you want it now. ...Go for the vigilantes. If you want to do it the politically correct way ...Call a cop, you know what happens then... well that takes time. I get spam/spoof email from con artists every day, some has to do with Ebay. Some about my banking account. I just deal with it and forward it on to their spoof dept. Total time involved 2 seconds. Well worth the fun of having Ebay at my disposal. Great tool, that Ebay. Use it as such, and you'll be happy you did. Very informative too! And what exactly are you looking for today? Keep it up, Ctskip

Watch out for PayPal scammers as well.

Two weeks ago I was sent a notice from an electronic game firm in the UK thanking me for the order. No one in our household had ordered anything from this company which had an eBay set up. I notified PayPal about it and they promptly refunded the money which had been taken out of my PayPal account. What a scam! How could they actually withdraw funds from a supposed "secure account"??? I immediately cancelled my account with PayPal and will never deal with them again.

Warning, I also had problem with paypal

bought a small item once on ebay, and paypal was the only acceptable payment method. About a month later I received several consecutive emails from a phoney pay pall requesting an update to my credit card info, for their records, to improve service for me in the future. I smelled a big rat, and got ahold of paypal on the phone. they said they do not use such practices, and it was a scam. I immediately cancelled my paypal account, and my credit card upon the advice of my credit card provider. Won't use paypall any more and every chance to warn others, I do.

Ebay isn't the only place to loose your shirt

Con men are everywhere but I'd hope that common sense and a little discernment can help. We purchased a boat from a fleabay sale and although more complicated than finding it in my local marina, it eventually went well. Like many pawn shops, many boating electronics sold on Ebay are suspect of being stolen pieces from unsecured cockpits. As penny pinchers we must be on guard to not be tempted to look the other way when we're suspicious, a sale might encourage a thief to hit you next. The wild west of internet commerce is a tough spot to do business for a new consumer but it is the face of the future and we better know how to secure our transactions and utilize it safely when shopping from an unknown seller. Thanks for the heads up to be on guard. Congrats on your boat search. Michael
