Wind/Retirement

Jim, Retirement is great, picking the day or days that I want to sail is great. However, I picked all next week to go for one week and it looks like Arlene is going to change my mind. I highly recommend retiring early -- Paul Bay Bridge Marina

It's good to hear

that Chesapeake sailors have the same weather patterns as land locked upstate NY Finger Lakes sailors. I compensate by gunkholing and taking a swim in the cleaest lake water in the world OR cancelling my day at work at heading out when the wind is up (yeah, THAT always happens!)

The same reason

the fish were biting last week. I think I'll rename my boat "Firm Business" so my secretary can truthfully tell anyone who cals that I'm out on firm business.;)

Come on down to the Gulf Coast

We're expecting 10 to 20 on Friday 30 to 50 on Saturday (gratis Arlene) 12 to 20 on Sunday. Of course you may have to deal with a few thunder storms and some serious rain. Ron Ms. Gulf Coast

Don't forget

Don't forget the predicted ten foot seas this weekend. We were planning an overnighter this weekend. Looks live home with DVDs instead.

Simple Reason

If you notice, the number of posts to this forum and trailersailor drop off during the weekend. With the loss of hot air, the winds drop off. Also as the result of another thread, I found out that the reason a lot of the postings drop off during the weekend is that a lot of the participants post from work. Therefore there is a direct tie. When you work, the wind blows. When you don't work, the wind stops blowing. Simple. Even a caveman could understand it.

don't forget vacations as well

Just came back from a month in the Bahamas...only managed to sail about 30% of the time, and that includes the direct offshore routes to and from Georgia and Green Turtle Cay! I didn't know you could get glassy conditions 75 miles offshore, much less in the stream. As for fishing...we trolled (with various lures) all the way there and back -we caught ONE 2pound blue!

Wind a-plenty

I'm sure it's a well-known fact... that from mid-spring to mid-fall the San Francisco bay will reliably provide all the wind one can handle for a exhilarating sail ANY day of the week. As a matter of fact, my wife yields her helm position to the more salty species during July and August as bay winds typically pipe-up 20 knots or greater after noon. Retirement here offers only less traffic.

Wind

The reason the wind blows Monday thru Friday is because that is the only time us retired folks can get out to sail.

Rain Too

This a similar to a question that has plagued me for years, what comes after 2 days of rain in Maryland? answer: MONDAY.

Isn't it the same principle as...

in the grocery store the other lines always move faster than the one you're in? There's actually some psychological/physiological/scientific princple I've heard that explains it. Don't remember but I bet there was a study on it...

Oh yea, I know something about this!!!!!!

Let me get another rum and coke, I'll be right back. OK, back. I'm a 47 yr old carpenter, who still works. Watched the whole month of May go by with no good weekends to put my boat in the water. Finally got my boat in the water this wednesday, at nite, too late to sail. All week, they were predicting storms, rain and bad weather. Every day at my job, all I saw was great sailing weather. Hot, windy, and a nice cool evening sail!! This weekend they are predicting lots of rain, and stormes. Doesnt suprise me.

r. w. ,

My boat is a Hunter23 on mooring #95, way out at the end! I love it there. No name, yet. Where are you? How often do you go up? We should meet sometime. Am in the process of fixing a minor problem with the rudder, I hope, then hope to be in full sail!

r.w., wasn't me, but

Probably my boat. I couldn't get there this weekend. A friend is helping me with rudder repairs, and he was taking off upper pintell this weekend. Was he on a Laguna21? I am going there this week, probably wednesday or thursday, and hopefully this weekend, I will look for you.

The opposite happens too

I've often wondered that too. All to many time I looked out the window at the trees blowing all week, only to be sitting in powerboat wakes all weekend. One summer a few years ago when when I couldn't sail at all, we were in the middle of a drought & didn't have any thunderstorms all summer. The other occurance that only seems to happen on weekends.
