I started first listening to Jimmy Buffett (never met a sailor who didn't have at least one Buffett CD) which lead me into sailing, and now I can't get enough time on the water. Sailing changed my life. But I love music too, play in my own band even and when I'm out on the water or driving I need my fix. Not too loud, don't want to drown out Mother Nature's own symphony, but a good song helps add to the moment. Buffett lead me to other "Trop-Rock" performers and I'll name them in no particular order, but I'm always on the lookout for others so I thought I'd ask the question: Whose Music Do You Listen To?
Here are my favourites.
Jimmy Buffett. 'Nuff said. His bandmates solo stuff as well, Mac McAnally, Pete Mayer, Michael Utley...
Jack Mosley. Florida. Sailor, singer, songwriter, understands the need for Time On The Water. Check out his signature song "Small Boats on Big Oceans."
Kelly McGuire. Texas. Sailor, singer, songwriter, boat-broker. 2008 Texas Independant Musician of the Year for his album "Boat in Belize." Another singer who 'Gets It.'
Hugo Duarte. North Carolina. Sailor, singer, songwriter. Ecclectic music range that spans Country, Island, Bluegrass, Blues and Southern Rock. Not a dog amongst them. Present when the Atocha was discovered, check out "Song of the Sea."
There are others. In my humble opinion no boat should be without music, and those I have mentioned above are sailors too with a unique understanding of what draws us to the sea.
Please share your favourites with me. Thanks.
