We Chartered a Hobie 16 out of Pensacola today.... Dang those are fast responsive little boats. That is not me (obviously) nor did we have enough wind to fly a hull but the ride was great. The boat we chartered had a continuous line traveler/main sheet combo that made trimming the main a ....breeze ...
On every point of sail I would play with the line until all of the tell tales streamed backwards and then you could just feel the boat jump to. I'm guessing we had 12 to 15 kt winds and the slowest we moved all day was 9 kt. It was really surprising to feel the boat move so fast in such light winds. The last time I chartered a Hobie, the one I got had a blown main and no jib. This boat was much nicer...
The boat also had a rotating mast and roller furled head sail. There was no traveler for the head sail and the sheets were pulled in kind of tight... I guess the head sail does not really provide much power anyway and is only there to help you point.... Very sweet little toy boat. I might have to keep my eye on craigs list...
