Who says it isn't fun to poke around the marina in winter?

Went to the marina today to check on the boat. Afterwards, just wandered about with a camera for a while. Found some interesting things.

You know it's a nasty winter when the plastic wolves come down from the hills!

There aren't many things as much fun as wandering around a marina, any time of year!

Bob, Where you be? the Log Pond or Tidewater? looks like Tidewater cause the Log Pond doesn't have dock space on the hard.

Ross, we're at Tidewater.

That's my poor forlorn Loon framed by the two boat hulls.
There are a total of three rows of boats on the hard behind us.
Another two on the other side of the fairway.

We get the snowbirds from around the bay for winter storage.

Here's a view looking south towards Herron Harbor.

Looks like Tidewater to me. Below is a pic of my boat at Tidewater the year I bought her (2003). Marina was frozen solid then, too. I also love to muck around the boatyard in winter and get a full view of all the interesting boats there. I usually end up inside my boat, eating a sandwich with the heater going and classical music playing on the stereo. Life is good...

Winter cottage

This is my winter cottage, with 2 ceramic heaters, I can do all those things I couldn't get done during the summer. See there are all kinds of interestng things going on at the boat yard during winter time. Stay warm as you wander thru the silent sailers

knocking around the marina in winter

Yes, not bad hanging in the marina in winter. I say winter because it has been in the upper 20's here in St. Augustine FL and we don't sail too much in this frigid (for us floridian wimps) weather. Just hung-out and chatted with a couple cruising down the ICW from Maryland. They couldn't believe it was Florida either but the drinks and conversation made it much better!

Nice cover pogo2! Mine stays indoors, but if it didn't I'd want one of those.

There are four marinas on my side of the river in Forked River. My evening exercise walk route takes me by all four of them. I get to look at the boats as I walk by. Funny how that worked out.

Hey Bob,

I guess your staying in the water again this year? How often do you haul out Loon?

Manny,

She usually comes out for a week during the summer for a FREE bottom paint job. Something they offer slipholders as an enticement to stay in the water over winter.

As you know they're land locked and need all the land space for winter boat storage.

They moved her for the winter to a slip closer to where you were. Nice thing is that one of the bubblers is just off to port about fifteen feet.

Hey Bob!

If you came over to the NE River you could ice skate from shore to shore (well, maybe not you, but possibly an anorexic model type could! :^o ). The ice eaters are keeping our marina relatively ice free, but we had a power outage last weekend and things iced up almost instantly.

Stay warm! Hoot! Hoot!

One of our favorite things to do on sailing trips is walk around marina's, appreciate the beauty of boats, and DREAM....
