Who has plagiarized whom?

I hesitate to post this question, but I'm confused. While agonizing over the best way to deal with the oxidized gelcoat on a recently purchased h23, the threads in this forum have led me to Poli Glow's Web Site and Island Girl's newsletter posted on the header of the Gel Coat Forum (Great Fiberglass Trilogy). The FAQ on Poli Glow's site has many statements which are word for word the same as those made by Island Girl, particularly in reference to gel coat oxidizing and how to best treat it. Are these companies related? Has one plagiarized the other? Have they both plagiarized someone else? Am I missing something? (If so, I'm sure I'll here about it.)

I believe Poli Glow is the product and Island Girl is the company that produces it. Bob

Maybe there is a case of facts.

Maybe what you are looking at is facts. Do not know what you read but they really have two completely different solutions. Polyglow is a coverup of your problem. You need to clean the surface first and then you basically put floor polish on the gelcoat. This then needs to be done every couple of years. If you decide you want to or need to remove it you need to use their product to remove the finish. The boaters that like this product swear by it. The ones that don't like it swear AT it. Island Girl on the other hand is a treatment for the gelcoat. It actually feeds the finish of the gel coat. Once you gelcoat has been treated you can use any other products on it to wax and clean as you normally would. There is nothing to remove in the case that you want to use something else in the future.

The two products are unrelated. Having enjoyed a few conversation with IG's Dr. Willis, and looking at his resume, I tend to believe what I read there.

Blast from (off) the Past...

Just wanted to remind you of our conversation a few days ago. Definitely use the gelcoat "restorer" from IG, but start with a good power wash to remove stubborn oxidation first. The IG works better with less effort. By the way: HELLO EVERYBODY!!! I've missed sitting at the computer for 6-8 hours a day reading all the good stuff here. Hope things are well with all and spring brings the best sailing ever!
