Who else cruises YachtWorld on a regular basis?

About twice a week I look at the "recently posted" on YachtWorld to surf boat porn. Sure I already have a killer boat and I have no intention of buying.....BUT...it's very cool when you come across something like this custom built, 1961 Swedish cruiser.

That is nice....

I recently was enamored by this boat.... if my wife were half as addicted as I am, I'd already own this boat...

A friend of mine had a Nor'Sea 27 the last time I lived in Hawaii. It was a blast to sail when the wind got cranking. I considered one during my recent boat search, but decided that I like Chuck Paine's designs too much to pass on the boat I bought.

Always. Most of the boats I dream about are beyond my reach, that is, until I win the California Lottery. That is scheduled to happen soon.
God knows what a worthless human I'd become if I won a lottery... since I know he won't let me win, I never buy a ticket.:pimp:

I spent quite a bit of time on Yachtworld over the last few years. At first I was gauging the market, then trying to figure out how much boat I could afford. Finally I got serious and started reaching out to brokers and dealers. I didn't end up buying a boat off Yachtworld but it was a big help to compare and see what the market value was for various boats. And of course I often got sidetracked and just browsed through the way out of reach listings.

What are you regular shoppers noticing, if anything, on prices? I just read an article today saying boat dealers are having record sales of all types of boats. Yet for cruisers you cant do a lot of cruising right now. With limited travel options and summer kid camps pretty much closed boating seems to be the big alternative.
We are retiring in less than two years. I was sort of hoping to get a good deal on a boat, but I haven't seen any significant drop in prices for used "blue water" boats.

One reason I look at YachtWorld occasionally is to see other boats identical to mine. Sometimes I can glean hints and tips from things I see in the pictures and might apply to my own boat.

I haven't seen much of an asking price dip except for boats that are obviously getting older. I did talk to several brokers during the process of my boat and most of them said that sellers seem to be willing to take a fair amount less than asking more quickly.

My wife says I don’t loot Yacht World all the time, just when I’m awake.

I saw a tee shirt I should get "God please let me prove to you that winning the lottery won't spoil me."

I'd simply buy the boat of my dreams...

Crispy searching the magazines like Yacht World and online sights will give you a glimpse at the boats being offered for sale. They are shown to inspire your impulse to buy. They are like car dealership ads on TV.

When you get serious you will need to visit marinas, boat brokers and talk with boaters to best understand the market. Yacht world serves the broker world. They have a advertising side you see online, and a private broker side hidden behind passwords and paid access which serves as an “after the sale” service to brokers that share the sold price of the deals. This only works if all the brokers share the actual price paid in a deal.

Some folk have enlisted a broker to act as a “buyers” broker. This might give you access to this “private” hidden world.

Good luck. It is a treasure search experience.

I do that too. Just to see pictures of what others have added or changed. I've gotten some good ideas.

I'm afraid I'm one of those "the grass is always greener" people. Even though I have a boat I'm perfectly happy with, I find myself looking at boat porn and saying to myself:

"Oooh, neat! That looks better than my boat!"

"Look at that Catamaran! That looks like fun! Maybe I made a mistake choosing a monohull..."

"That deck is spotless and the boat looks squared away. Maybe I made a mistake having something with so much teak and is such a pain in the ass to clean..."

"Look at the galley. So much better than mine. I could prepare a 5 course meal in there!"

"Look at the size of the V-berth! You could have an orgy in there."

...and so on and so forth. I should probably stop doing it.
