For those of you in the Northeast I hope you will read my article in the November issue of Windcheck Magazine regarding the recent Whitebread Regatta here on the North Fork of LI. So far I haven't been able to locate it online so you may have to pick up a printed issue to read it. If you locate it, I hope it makes enjoyable reading.

Andrew - I heard one of the vessels went down after taking on large amounts of water off the East side of Shelter Island (from the easterly blow). I was near there that day but not on the water -- very strong blows that day. Ill have to track down your article in print.

That's true and part of the subject of the article titled "Gone Girl."
Try Capital One - they usually have Windcheck in Greenport. Cross Sound Ferry usually does. And many of the boatyards do. I saw some copies at Albertson's in Southold.

Hey,

Nice article. You can find it here:

I did the race on 'RJMS' a c&C 35 mark III. We had a pretty good race. The weather was 'challenging' but we hung in there. I wish I knew you were there so I could have found you and said 'hello.'

The beat on the east side of Shelter Island was the roughest sailing I have ever done. It was so windy and the waves so large that communicating on the boat was almost impossible. It was difficult to do ANYTHING.

The most amazing sight I saw during the race was the Columbia 32 Weegie. He was flying with 1/2 the boat out of the water. We were going 7-8 kts with the chute up and he passed us like were standing still. He had to be going 20 kts! The spray coming off the back of the boat looked like a rooster tail.

It took me two days to dry out!

How was the party after the race? That is usually the highlight of the Whitebread.

Hopefully you mean the race is great and the party greater. But, it was a hoot. The band was a local Fav the Loansharks - who play a kinda Rockabilly/Country that appeals to most age groups. We had Greenport Brewery supply the beer and Lenz the wine. The caterers cut off the free flowing Gosslings after last year. I guess they misunderestimated the Gosslings Guzzling ability of 500 thirsty sailers. Truth is we were home by 10, asleep by 10:10 and, yes it took a long time to dry out. We had wet gear all over the place for days. And it took three weeks for my back to straighten out. My deck shoes still stink and may not make it. I'm looking forward to next year.

Hey,

The party was great.

The funny(?) thing was that after we finished the race we had to sail the boat back to Greenport where it would stay before the Greenport Ocean Race. The weather was so bad on that trip was it was just miserable. Anyway we made it to Greenport and then drove back to the party. It was still raining like crazy. The party was under a big tent but the wine and stuff was in a barn. The water started flooding the barn but then the rain stopped and it actually cleared up.

The beer was served from a converted fire truck. There were taps built into the sides. It was very cool.

I seem to recall Mount Gay Rum as flowing freely at that race many moons ago.
